Jaipur: The Indian Meteorological Department’s Rajasthan Meteorological Centre announced on Monday that there will be no immediate relief from the intense heatwave gripping the region, with warmer nights expected to persist over the next two to three days. Additionally, surface winds ranging from 25 to 35 kmph are anticipated in various parts of the state within the next 72 hours.
Phalodi in Rajasthan has surpassed the 50 degrees Celsius mark for the first time this season, according to Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur. He also reported that Jaisalmer and Barmer have seen nighttime temperatures surge by seven degrees Celsius. Sharma warned that the intense heatwave and warmer nights are expected to persist, with no significant change in maximum temperatures anticipated until May 29.
However, he noted that due to weakening anti-cyclonic conditions, temperatures in some parts of Eastern Rajasthan are likely to drop by two to three degrees Celsius from May 29, and in some parts of Western Rajasthan from May 30. By the first week of June, maximum temperatures are expected to return to near-normal levels in most parts of the state, as per the IMD official.
Large parts of northern India continue to reel under a fierce heat wave with temperatures soaring over 45 degrees Celsius at many places in the country on Sunday.
According to the India Meteorological Department, Mungeshpur in Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 48.3 degrees Celsius and Punjab’s Faridkot recorded a temperature of 47.4 degrees.
