PM Modi Meets LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner

For the second consecutive year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is among the most-viewed CEOs on LinkedIn in India. The others in the list this year are Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of Biocon, Kunal Bahl of Snapdeal, Santosh Desai of Future Brands, Anil Sardana of Tata Power, M S Unnikrishnan of Thermax, Anand Gupta of HCL Technologies, and Rekha M Menon of Accenture India.

Modi, who joined LinkedIn in 2014, currently has just over a million followers on the platform—1,080,779 to be precise. He is also classified by LinkedIn as an “influencer”.

In a blog post on the list, LinkedIn said, “A true leader must have a compelling vision to help steer forward. Modi embodies this vision and drive, and is inspiring the nation with his plans for a Digital India, and powering a billion dreams. With over 1 million followers on LinkedIn, he is featured with other top leaders on the list of most-viewed CEOs of India, continuing to put the nation on the world’s map.

Stating that the deal with Microsoft is moving in a much better manner than he had hoped, Jeff Weiner, CEO, LinkedIn on Tuesday said that he has spent a lot of time with Satya Nadella and both the companies’ values are very similar in nature. When asked about his expansion plans, he told CNBC-TV 18, “We have massive expansion plans for India and it is the second largest country for LinkedIn in terms of membership.” He also said that China & India are some of LinkedIn’s most important markets.

When asked about PM Narendra Modi’s digital initiative and his presence on LinkedIn, he told ET Now, “I believe PM Modi and his team are doing a fantastic job on LinkedIn.” He also said that he wants to share the same passion which Modi has of making a difference in India. “I want to share PM Modi’s passion of making a difference in India.” He also spoke about the startup ecosystem. He said the startups scene in India is budding and it is a very exciting space to be in. “Startup ecosystem in India is alive and well”.

Microsoft acquired LinkedIn for a whopping $26.2 billion, in an all-cash transaction. This was one of the biggest deals in the tech world. Microsoft in its official blog announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement with LinkedIn in which it acquired the latter for $196 per share. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said, “The LinkedIn team has grown a fantastic business centered on connecting the world’s professionals.”
