Secret Meeting Case: NIA court to announce quantum of punishment today

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court will pronounce the quantum of punishment to five members of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) in the secret meeting case of 2006.

Earlier yesterday, the court had found them guilty under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The police says that the five had assembled at an auditorium near Kochi for anti-national activities.

17 people were earlier accused in the case. While 11 were acquitted, one who was 13 years at the time of arrest, is undergoing trial at a juvenile court.
