State-sponsored terrorism has evolved faster than anticipated: Navy chief

Date:

The Indian Navy chief of staff, Admiral Sunil Lanba has asserted that the threat of state-sponsored terrorism in India has evolved faster than anticipated.

While addressing the Global Defence Security summit, he said that the menace of state-sponsored terrorism is now not confined to a country or region, but has spread globally.

“India has been victim of state-sponsored terrorism from many years now. Unfortunately, this threat has evolved faster than many had anticipated and is no longer confined to a country or region. It has, in every sense, acquired a global reach and influence,” Admiral Lanba said.

He further said the defining characteristic of the prevailing security is the ongoing transition in the world order.

“The situation is compounded by interlinking of terrorism and transnational criminal activity,” the Navy chief said.

“This provide greater resources to sustain terror activities and enables relocation of extremists through existing illicit channels. So cooperation between nations has become vital,” he added.
