Swamy demands renaming of Madurai airport after Thevar

New Delhi, Aug 30 (PTI) BJP MP Subramanian Swamy hassought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention in namingMadurai airport after Tamil freedom fighter MuthuramalingaThevar. In a letter to the prime minister, he said it has beena long-standing demand of the people of Tamil Nadu to renamethe airport and honour Thevar. The Rajya Sabha MP said he had requested the Vajpayeegovernment as well as the previous UPA regime to name theairport after the freedom fighter and that both thegovernments had accepted his proposal. But, he said, renaming of the airport was not possibleas concurrence of the state government was not received. "Now, I urge you to have your office review the recordand direct the renaming of the Madurai Airport asMuthuramalingam Thevar International Airport," Swamy said inhis letter. PTI MPB ZMNKK
