Kanpur: Days after a 17-year-old boy in Pune killed two IT Professionals, a teen in Kanpur hit four people. The 15-year-old boy was detained by the Kanpur police and sent to a juvenile home for mowing down and killing two people with his father’s car in October 2023, as per a statement by the officials on Thursday.
Four other persons were hurt by the accused in the Barra section of the city, months after the disaster. The 15-year-old boy who mowed down two people in Kanpur is the son of a prominent doctor in the city. According to reports, an investigation into some local police officers’ purported passivity in the case was also started.
The media was briefed by Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Harish Chandra, regarding the alleged delay in filing the chargesheet and initiating legal action against the accused adolescent. The minor defendant was also charged with being allowed to go unpunished despite directly participating in two hit-and-run instances.
The ACP said, “On October 27, 2023, a case was registered that a car was involved in a hit-and-run incident in which two persons lost their lives. The case was registered under IPC Section 304 A, and further investigation determined that a minor was behind the wheel of the vehicle. The accused was detained and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on May 21, this year. The Board committed him to a juvenile correctional centre.”
Meanwhile, in the Pune hit-and-run case, the police have questioned the accused teenager’s grandfather, driver and friend to know the facts of the accident. The Porsche that the teenager was allegedly driving at the time of the collision was also inspected by a forensic team.
After days of outrage over the accused’s bail in the case, he was sent to the observation home by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) on Wednesday. In connection with the boy’s alcohol use, his father was also taken into custody, and two Pune bar owners were also taken into custody.
