This Diwali, go green

Date:

The festive season has just begin. Navratri is done, Dussehra is done and today it’s Diwali which we are celebrating with fun and frolic

Diwali is one of the most prestigious festivals of the Hindu community, as we mark the homecoming of lord Ram after defeating Ravana. It is also regarded as time when Goddess Lakshmi (Goddess of prosperity) is ushered into our houses.

To mark this festival, we decorate our houses and workplaces to spread joy around and welcome prosperity to our livelihood. But, what we end up doing in is harm the environment. Keeping that in mind, it wouldn’t be all that bad an idea to give this diwali a green twist.

Unable to process this?

Diwali burdens the already harmed environment with added noise and air pollution, in addition to wasting energy and the possibility of accidents due to fire crackers. Thus, it becomes imperative for us to preserve Mother Nature by celebrating the festival in a responsible manner.

Here are a few tips that will help you to celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali this year:

Lightings: Diwali without lightings is totally drab. Yes, electric lightings are quite convenient, but why give work up your electricity bills when you can have another better way. This Diwali, let’s go back to our traditional yet classic earthen Diwali diyas or lamps as they are bio-degradable, much more affordable and surely look very beautiful.

Add some colours: You might want to take some time and try to decorate your entrance with a beautiful eco-friendly rangoli. The designing may take some time but rangoli with natural colours, with a combination of diyas will illuminate your houses which cannot be matched by electric lightings.

Gifting: Diwali is about sharing gifts with friends and family. So this Diwali lets gift something to the needy one who have no one to get gift from, or let’s plant a tree to gift our Mother Nature instead of bursting crackers.
