Trick or Treat? Happy Halloween in India!

Date:

This Diwali weekend, while most of the country was busy celebrating Diwali, another holiday was also being celebrated across the globe – Halloween.

Straddling the line between fall and winter, plenty and paucity, life and death, Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition. It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts.

However, even though this festival in not celebrated in all its glamour and glory, the advent of globalization is allowing various rituals to make their way in. Children’s festive parties and halloween themed parties in India have become common.

The trick or treating phenomenon is also becoming common as the younger ones are dressing up to go to different houses and collect the much needed candy.

In a time when so much is happening around the globe, it makes sense to take one night off, dress up and be whoever you want to be. After all, that’s what life is.
