New Delhi: Elon Musk-owned Twitter laid off a large number of employees from its marketing and communications department in India on Friday.
The laying off of employees in India is part of a global job cut ordered by Twitter’s new owner Elon Musk to attain economies of scale and make the USD 44 billion acquisition viable.
Last week, Musk dismissed the company’s CEO, Parag Agrawal, as well as the CFO and a few other key executives.
“In an effort to place Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce on Friday,” Twitter said in the email sent on Thursday, reported by newswire Reuters.
The company also said its offices will be temporarily closed and all badge access will be suspended in order to help ensure the safety of employees and Twitter systems and customer data.
The company said employees who were not affected by the layoffs would be notified via their work email addresses. Staff who had been laid off would be notified with next steps to their email addresses.
