Unable to repay loan, man pledges newborn with money-lender

Jaipur, Aug 27 (PTI) A man pledged his newborn child witha money-lender for failing to repay a loan of Rs 20,000 inTonk district of Rajasthan, officials said today. The money-lender took the infant to the Child WelfareCommittee which directed a children’s home to take care of it. President of the Child Welfare Committee Maya Subalka toldPTI that one Kalu Ram had taken a loan of Rs 20,000 frommoney-lender Balu Ram. On April 11, Kalu Ram and his wife came to Balu Ram sayingthey were unable to repay his loan and pledged their newbornwith him. Balu Ram produced the infant before the bench of the ChildWelfare Committee on the same day and narrated the entireincident. The bench named the infant ‘Bardaan’ and sent him to thechildren’s home. Subalka said the Child Welfare Committee has directed theSP as well as the local police to trace the parents of thechild, who is now around six-month-old, but they have not metwith any success.
