YouTube depends on community members for reviewing content

Kolkata, Sep 20 (PTI) YouTube mostly depends on itscommunity members to flag issues to review the content as perits guidelines before "censoring" it. "We rely on YouTube community members to flag content theyfind inappropriate. Then we review it to see whether it isagainst our community guidelines and then we take the rightkind of action," YouTube India Head, Entertainment Content,Satya Raghavan told reporters at a roundtable in the citytoday. On dealing with videos uploaded on YouTube threateningsecurity issues, he said, "Lot of cases are there where thelaw of the land is very important. That’s where we work withthe local governments and that happens globally. Where theyhave specific requests, we obey." As per the guidelines, the YouTube staff review flaggedvideos 24 hours a day every week. "Flagged videos are not automatically taken down by theflagging system. If a video does not violate our guidelines,no amount of flagging will change that and it will stay on thesite. "Videos that violate our community guidelines are removedfrom YouTube and videos that may not be appropriate for allyounger audiences are age-restricted," he said. PTI SCH DKBRC
