Samaritans leave scarves around town for the homeless

Date:

For many people in North America, last week has been the coldest of the year. One always make sure to bundle up to stay warm, but that’s something that the less fortunate aren’t able to easily do.

To solve this problem, some Good Samaritans have been tying scarves to trees, poles, and fire hydrants in big cities for people in need.

“I AM NOT LOST!” reads a note attached to a scarf tied to a fire hydrant in Wilmington, North Carolina. “If you need this to stay warm, then please take it. It is yours. Be warm, and do something to help someone else today if you can.”

Many of the scarves around Wilmington were placed there by Scarves in the Port City, a group dedicated to serving the homeless community.

Last month, a teenage soccer team in Spokane, Washington made around 300 scarves for the homeless and left them on the Bloomsday runner statues in Riverfront Park with notes similar to the one above.

“There’s a lot of good people here and I’ve seen a lot of bad things happen, and yet I see a lot of good people that care,” said Ed, a homeless man who took one of the team’s scarves.

A group of knitters in Edmonton, Alberta and Winniped, Manitoba are also leaving their scarves all over the cities.
