Fact Check: Clipped Video Of Gadkari’s Interview Viral With Fictitious Claims

A video of BJP leader and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is going viral on social media, where he is saying that the poor people, labourers and farmers of the villages are unhappy due to lack of good roads, hospitals, schools and drinking water. The video is shared with the implication that he’s talking about his government.

Here’s the link to the above post.

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be misleading.

Closely observing the video, we saw the logo of The Lallantop on top right corner of the video. Looking for the original video on their YouTube channel, we found the original video uploaded on Feb 29, 2024. And to our surprise, the viral clip had been taken out of context.

In the original video, Gadkari talks about infrastructural development in the agricultural sector and the diversification of agriculture towards energy and power sectors. He further discusses the idea of farmers becoming energy and vitamin providers, and talks about the contributions of the agricultural, manufacturing, and service sectors to our economy.

He also says, “When Gandhiji was there, 90 per cent of the population lived in villages. Why did 30 per cent of this population migrate over time? Today, villagers, poor people, labourers, and farmers are sad. The reason is that water, land, forests and wildlife – rural, agricultural and tribal – these economies do not have good roads, potable water, good hospitals, good schools. Farmers don’t get good prices for their crops, and the sustainable development has happened, but is less as compared to other sectors.”

He then says that after the BJP government came to power, he and his party are doing a lot of work in this area.

Thus, from the above fact-check, it is clear that the viral clip has been taken out of context and is misleading.
