Fact Check: Does This Clip Show Maharashtra CM Shinde Eating Non-veg During Navratri? Here’s The Truth

A photo showing Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde dining with social media influencer Kamiya Jani is being widely circulated on social media, claiming that the Shiv Sena leader consumed mutton during the Navratri festival.

The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: “नवरात्रि में, तेजस्वी यादव के मछली खाने पर छाती पीटने वाली गोदी मिडिया के दलाल एकंर एकनाथ शिदें के मटन खाने पर छुप क्यों” (English translation: In Navratri, people beat their chest when Tejashwi Yadav eats fish. Why is Godi media broker hiding on eating mutton of Eknath Shinde)

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

Searching on Google with relevant keywords, the NM team found a video shared on Instagram by Kamiya Jani and Eknath Shinde. The video was uploaded by Jani on April 18 with a caption: “On the auspicious day of Ram Navami, I enjoyed a very hearty veg saoji meal with Maharashtra CM Shinde.”

In the caption, Kamiya Jani further wrote, “Local women of the village prepared a very special veg saoji meal for us and it was super delicious.” Saoji food includes both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes and originates from the Saoji community, a weaver community that settled in Nagpur, Madhya Pradesh. Saoji cuisine is known for its fiery spices, including a 32-mix spice mixed with jute and linseed oil to make a paste. In the video, Eknath Shinde can be seen entering a house where a woman prepares vegetarian meal for him. Shinde then talks about the dishes served, including baingan bharta (roasted brinjal), baingan sabzi (a curry made from brinjal), patodi wadi (a diamond-shaped fritter dipped in spicy gravy), which is a Saoji specialty.

We also found a report on Curly Tales’ website about Eknath Shinde and Kamiya Jani’s lunch together. The report reads: “This Ram Navami celebration in Umred wasn’t just about the delicious food or the esteemed company… The dedication of the local women in preparing the vegetarian saoji feast, the vibrant festive spirit in the village, and the opportunity to connect with the chief minister — all these elements combined to create a truly memorable Ram Navami experience.”

Thus, it is evident from the above information that the viral image does not show the Maharashtra CM eating non-veg food during the Navratri festival.
