Fact Check: Does This Video Show BJP Leader Beaten Up While Campaigning In TN? Here’s The Truth

A video claiming people in Tamil Nadu beat up a BJP leader while he was campaigning is doing the rounds on social media. Many users have shared the video mocking the BJP and its leader.

A Facebook user posted the viral post with the following caption: तमिलनाडु से रुझान आने शुरु हो गए – रुकना नहीं चाहिए लगातार चालू रहना चाहिए , तमिलनाडु में @BJP4India नेता को कमल के रथ पर से उतारकर – कुटाई शुरु !

(English translation: Trends have started coming from Tamil Nadu – should not stop, should continue continuously. In Tamil Nadu @BJP4India leader was removed from lotus chariot – beating started!)

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post and found it to be false.

Running the video keyframes through Reverse Image Search, the NM team spotted a Facebook post, dated October 2023. The video in the post looks like a clearer version of the viral clip, suggesting that the incident happened in Balangir, Odisha when two factions of BJP Balangir got into a brutal fight with each other.

With a keyword search, we found another news article in The New Indin Express confirming that there was a tussle between these BJP leaders.

Finally, we found a YouTube video, shot from a different angle published on the official channel of OTV — a local media organisation in Odisha. Here too, we see a fight between the two sections. We also got to know that the party leader Gopalji Panigrahi and his supporters were welcoming the rally led by Samal at Bijakhaman Chowk as they were entering Balangir from Titilagarh when two other members Balaram Singh Jadav and former MLA candidate from Balangir Ananta Dash, along with their supporters wanted to greet the rallyists.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming people in Tamil Nadu beat up a BJP leader while he was campaigning, is false.
