Fact Check: Edited Video Falsely Shared As Rahul Gandhi Urging People To Vote For BJP

A video of Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi is widely circulating on social media claiming that he is urging people to vote for BJP in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. As the 2024 Lok Sabha elections enter their final phases with just two rounds of voting left, this video of Rahul Gandhi appealing for votes in favour of Narendra Modi is gaining significant attention as his last appeal.

In the viral video (Archive Link) Gandhi says, that this election is crucial for democracy and the Constitution. He says the Congress Party and India Alliance are hurting these ideals, while the RSS and BJP are defending them. Gandhi criticized Congress for making a few people rich and praised Modi for wanting to help many women and youth become wealthy. He asks people to support BJP and RSS to protect the Constitution and vote for Narendra Modi.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact check found the claim to be false as the viral video has been edited.

We started our investigation by using a reverse image search with the keyframes from the viral video. This led us to the original and extended version of the video on The Indian Express YouTube channel from April 25, 2024. The extended version was also uploaded on Rahul Gandhi’s official YouTube channel dated the same.

In the original video, Gandhi expresses views opposite to those portrayed in the viral video. He encourages voters to support the Congress Party and criticizes the BJP for exploiting resources and democracy over time.

Not only this, the video was also covered by multiple YouTube channels such as EW Network and NNTV dated April 25, 2024.

Lastly, Gandhi’s video also caught multiple headlines on media outlets such as Economic Times and DT Next.
