A photo of a metro on an elevated line is being widely shared on social media, claiming it showcases the development of metro railway services achieved by the BJP-led government in India. The image is used to criticise the development before 2014 when the Congress-led government was in power.
The photo has been circulated with a Bengali caption: কর্মসংস্থান না বাড়লে কীভাবে ভারতের শহরে-শহরে পৌঁছে গেল মেট্রো পরিষেবা? কংগ্রেস বলবে, বিজেপি করবে! (English translation: “If employment did not increase, how did the metro service reach the cities of India? Congress will say, BJP will do!”)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.
Doing a Reverse Image Search, the NM team identified some photos published on a Singapore government website promoting the country’s transportation convenience. The image appearing in the Living in Singapore section of the wbsite, with a caption: “Imagine living in a country where the old coexists harmoniously with the new, where skyscrapers are nestled comfortably against nature trails.”
A comparison between the image published on the Singapore government website and the one posted by BJP handles shows they are quite identical.
Additionally, a similar image was found on The Straits Times, a Singapore-based daily newspaper, featuring visuals matching with some original photos. The Straits Times stated that the image depicts Jurong East MRT.
Also, a keyword search for ‘Jurong East’ on the stock photo website Getty Images revealed several photos from that location. One such photo, taken by photographer Roslan Rahman from the international news agency AFP in 2016, matched with the viral image.
Thus, it is evident from the above information that the image from Singapore is falsely shared as development of metro lines in India during BJP rule.
