Fact Check: Image Of Newly-Wed Couple Watching Pak Vs Nepal Match In Multan Goes Viral With False Claims

A picture of a newly married couple at a cricket stadium is extensively shared on social media. People have shared the image claiming that the couple came straight from their wedding to watch the India vs Pakistan match in the Asia Cup 2023 on September 2, 2023.

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.

Running a Reverse Image Search of the viral image, the NM team spotted a YouTube video, dated August 31, 2023, and titled: Wedding bells and cricket cheers, a perfect match at Multan stadium😱🙌 #asiacup2023 #shortsfeed. The couple match with one of the viral pictures, and according to its title, the incident happened during the Pakistan vs Nepal clash at the Multan stadium. 

Given that India-Pakistan match happened on September 2, 2023, the video predates the clash proving that it has nothing to do with the India vs Pak match in Kandy, Sri Lanka. 

One more YouTube video, dated September 1, 2023, confirms that the Pakistan vs Nepal match happened in Multan.

Another article in Minutemirror.com.pk, dated September 1, 2023, also corroborates the claims made in the YouTube videos.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral picture, claiming a newly-wed couple came straight from their wedding to watch the match between India vs Pakistan, is false.
