An image showing a young girl seated against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains alongside a snow leopard is widely shared on social media. According to the viral post, the girl’s name is Gulmina, and she is from the Gilgit-Baltistan region in Pakistan. It is claimed that she raised the snow leopard since it was a cub.

The image is shared on Facebook with a caption: “This girl’s name is Gulmina, she lives in Madan Tehsil of Shamshal area of Gilgit-Baltistan. This snow leopard was raised by this girl as a kitten, now this leopard has grown up and lives in the mountains, but she is friends with this girl.”

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

A Reverse Image Search of the viral photo led us to the Instagram account “babrakk”, which shared the same photo on March 24, 2024 with a caption: “Shirin & her fierce companion. Making a great duo.” In the comments section of the post in Instagram, when asked “How did you manage to take this?”, the account user responded with: “With Midjourney”. This made it clear that the photo was not real but it was AI-generated.

This account has also shared several similar photos of children in the mountains accompanying wild animals.

Thus, we can conclusively say that the viral image of a girl with a snow leopard is AI-generated.
