Fact Check: NDTV’s ‘Poll Of Polls’ Predicting Congress Win In Telangana Is Fake


Voting is scheduled for 119 Assembly seats in Telangana on November 30, 2023. Amidst this, a graphic showing the news channel NDTV‘s ‘poll of polls’ is going viral on social media. Manny people on social media claim that NDTV opinion poll predicted Congress victory in the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections.

A Facebook user shared this image and wrote, “Most *Opinion Polls* are predicting that in Telangana, BRS is staring at their biggest defeat due to huge anti-incumbency against KCR govt. Today, the NDTV Poll of Polls Tracker predicted a historic win for…”

It is being widely shared on Facebook and X with a similar claim.


NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.

We did a keyword search for NDTV’s Poll of Polls for the Telangana assembly elections in 2023, but could not find any latest opinion polls released by them.

We also identified a tweet, dated November 28, 2023, with a description: “#FakeNewsAlert | NDTV has not carried any poll of polls for #Telangana2023. Please don’t spread fake news.”

It is to be noted that the “Poll of Polls” conducted by NDTV, is actually an exit poll. Exit polls are typically released immediately after the last phase of voting. However, NDTV’s  “Poll of Polls in the viral post has been circulated two days before the scheduled voting date (November 30), causing confusion and concern.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral graphic showing NDTV’s poll of polls is fake. No exit polls have been conducted by the channel so far.
