Amidst the ongoing communal violence in Haryana, which reportedly originated in the Nuh district, social media is flooded with numerous photos and videos depicting arson, vandalism, and violence. One such video of an old man wailing in front of an official is widely shared on social media, claiming that it shows the pain of the suffering Hindus in Mewat, who sought refuge and safety in a temple during the communal violence in Nuh.
The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “Terror alerts see the pain of the suffering Hindus of Mewat who saved their lives by hiding in the temple yesterday. In violence by Muslims so far: -Two security personnel and 4 Hindus shot dead. -Hundreds of vehicles and houses of Hindus -More than 2,500 Hindus had to take shelter due to fear of violence. Reason only and only one: Muslim population in that area is 80%”.

Performing a Reverse Image Search of the viral video keyframes, the NM team identified a Twitter post, dated August 27, 2022, carrying the same viral video with the text: “A Hindu man, Hari, is cursing himself for being born as a Non-Muslim in the Islamic state of Pakistan. Armed men beat him, and abducted his 22-year-old daughter. No one helped. She returned after days of constant, severe gang rape. She hardly can move. Sujawal Goth, Sindh”. This means that the video is old and unrelated to the recent violence in Nuh, Haryana.
We also found a Reddit post carrying the same viral video in 2020 with a caption: “Pakistani Hindu Hari curses and beats himself for being born as Hindu. His daughter was abducted and gang-raped. She is in serious condition right now”.
A YouTube video on December 2020 had featured the same viral video showing a man wailing and expressing his helplessness and worry. However, it’s important to note that the subtitles did not indicate that the man was wailing about being born a Hindu.
Though we could not ascertain the exact time and location of the viral video, it is evident that the video is old and unrelated to the Nuh violence.
