Fact Check: Old Images Viral To Claim Arms Seized From Madrasa in UP’s Bijnor

Date:

Several pictures of weapons are being circulated on social media with a claim that they were recovered from a madrasa in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh.

The images are being shared with the text, “Arms seized from muslims in a Madrassa in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnour.”

Here’s the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found it to be false.

We checked all the pictures separately and found the following:

Image 1

We did a Reverse Image Search of the above picture, we found a post on Tumblr with this picture, dated March 2019. This proves that the image in circulation is old.

However, NewsMobile independently couldn’t find the origin of this particular image.

Image 2

We found the image in an article by Gujarat Headline from 2016. According to the article, the picture is from Rajkot, Gujarat, when weapons were seized from a store.

The report mentioned that 257 swords, knives and Guptis etc were seized during the raid and five persons including Hotel Manager Aarif Karbani, Irfan Dilavar Divan, Idrist Dilavar, Safibeg Mahmad Marija and Munna Vohra were arrested by the police.

Image 3

We reverse-searched the above picture and found a tweet by Shamli (UP) police that carried this  image.

According to the tweet, the photograph was of a raid at a madrasa, in which forged documents, along with foreign currency and mobile phones were seized. The incident took place in July 2019.

Image 4

We put the image through a Reverse Image search and found that this picture is from a ‘kirpan’ factory in Patiala, Punjab. This picture was featured in an India Today article dated 2018. The report also featured a picture of the factory along with the owner Bachan Singh.

Moreover, Bijnor Police also took to Twitter to refute the viral claim.

NewsMobile has earlier debunked all four images on two different occasions. Images 1 and 3 were debunked by NewsMobile in 2019 when it was shared with the claim that government has taken over mosques in Kashmir.

While NewsMobile debunked Images 2 and 4 in 2020 when it was being shared as arms recovered from the house of former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain.

https://newsmobile.in/articles/2020/03/11/are-these-pictures-of-the-weapon-recovered-from-the-house-of-tahir-hussain-heres-the-truth/

Hence, it is clear from the fact check, that the viral post is false.
