A video circulating on social media shows a drone tangled in electric power lines over an empty patch of land, with users linking it to Iran’s retaliatory attacks against Israel on April 13. The claim suggests that the drone, targeted at Israel, got stuck in power lines in Iraq. This incident follows an Israeli airstrike on April 1, which destroyed Iran’s embassy in Damascus, Syria, killing 16 people, including military personnel.
The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “Very Sad for Iran! One of the Iranian drones got stuck in electric pole wires in Iraq. #Israel #NewsUpdate #today #iran”

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.
Performing a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, the NM team identified a Twitter post carrying similar visuals, dated February 21, 2024, with a caption: “An unidentified drone crashes into electric cables in the town of Qamar al-Din in the Hasakah countryside”.
When we compared with viral video carrying the Twitter post, it became evident that they both are from the same incident.
The same visuals were shared in another post on Twitter, mentioning that a “suicide drone” had crashed into electrical lines in a village called Qamar Aldin, located in Hasakah, Syria. This post was shared on February 21, 2024.
Though we could not ascertain the exact time and location of the viral video, it is now clear that it predates the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.
