FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post, and found it to be old.

Putting the keyframes of the video through Reverse Image Search, we identified a report by the Independent dated May 2, 2013. The report had shared screengrabs of the same video with the headline: Video: Boeing 747 cargo plane crash in Afghanistan.

The same video had been shared by The Guardian on May 1, 2013, with the description: “Footage purports to show the moment a Boeing 747 US cargo plane crashes on its ascent from Bagram airbase, Afghanistan on Monday. The crash has resulted in the death of all seven American crew members on board. The exact cause of the crash is unknown, although there were thunderstorms in the area. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.”

The same visuals were also shared by ABC News and CBS News in May 2013. Both reports mentioned that the visuals were of a plane that crashed shortly after take-off from the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.

Thus, it is clear that an old video of a plane crash in Afghanistan has been shared with false claims.
