Fact Check: Portrait of BR Ambedkar In Putin’s Office Is Photoshopped

An image showing Russian President Vladimir Putin in a conference room with a portrait of BR Ambedkar on the wall is widely circulated on social media.

Several Facebook users have shared the image with a caption: “Russian President Mr Vladimir Puttin has displayed Dr B. R. Ambedkar’s photo in his office….a great honour for India.!(sic)”

Here’s the link to the above post.

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be edited.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we found the original image on the stock image website Alamy, which does not feature a portrait of BR Ambedkar in the background.

As per the details, the image was taken on February 15, 2007, with a caption: “Russian President Vladimir Putin holding a conference on economic issues in the Kremlin (From left to right, Sergei Ignatyev).”

Below is the comparison between the edited and real images.

In the original image, one can see Russia’s national emblem in place of BR Ambedkar’s photo.

Hence, it can be concluded that the viral image is manipulated using the picture-editing software.
