Fact Check: This Viral Video Doesn’t Show Recent Flooding in Jodhpur

Date:

Following heavy rainfall in Jodhpur, Bhilwara and Chittorgarh districts of Rajasthan, a video is widely being shared on social media with a claim that it is of a recent flooding in Jodhpur.

The video is shared with a caption: “प्रकृति का खतरनाक दृश्य जोधपुर राजस्थान.” (English translation: “Dangerous visual of natural calamity… Jodhpur, Rajasthan.”)

The link to the video can be seen here.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile did the fact-check, and found it to be misleading.

On doing a Google Reverse Image Search with one of the screenshots, we found the same video uploaded by TV9 Bharatvarsh, dated August 14, 2020, with a caption: “Jaipur में भारी बारिश.. सड़कों पर सैलाब.. पानी के बहाव में बहे लोग.” (English translation: “Heavy rainfall in Jaipur, flood on road, people washed away in rain.”)

The same video was also uploaded by Nav Bharat Times on August 14, 2020. As per the report, the incident took place in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

Hence, we can ascertain that the viral video is quite old, and has no relation to the recent flood in Jodhpur.
