Fact Check: Viral Post Claiming Congress Is Not Nominating Candidates For LS Elections In Arunachal Pradesh Is Misleading

Date:

A post is being widely circulated on social media suggesting that the Congress party refrained from nominating candidates in Arunachal Pradesh, citing concerns that it could provoke China and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra never enter into Arunachal Pradesh.

The Facebook post reads: โ€œOne view๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡*Congress didn’t field any candidate in Arunachal Pradesh because China might get angry and also because it will be a breach of the 2009 MoU signed between the Congress and the Chinese Communist Party.* Also, despite starting in the North East, *Pappu’s Bharat Anyay Yatra* never entered Arunachal Pradesh. The reason being the same. The shameless Congress is in a partnership with India’s enemy. Vote wisely in 2024. Do not forget the fact that *the Congress is the number one internal enemy of India*.โ€

FACT CHECK

NewsMobileย fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be false.

After reviewing the official website of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and examining affidavits submitted by various contesting candidates, the NM team found two constituencies in Arunachal Pradesh where candidates will be vying for the general elections. The Congress party has selected Bosiram Siram for the Arunachal East constituency and Nabam Tuki for the Arunachal West constituency.

According to another report by the Deccan Herald, dated March 30, 2024, a combined total of 14 candidates will vie for the two Lok Sabha seats in Arunachal Pradesh. The report specifies that Tuki and Siram are the designated Congress candidates for the upcoming elections.

Regarding the state assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh, a report by The Hindu indicated that Congress released a roster of 34 candidates. Nevertheless, several candidates withdrew their candidacy, reducing the count of Congress representatives contesting the state assembly elections to 19.

We also found a news article in The Hindu reporting that the yatra commenced its journey into the state on January 20, with Rahul Gandhi being welcomed by Nabam Tuki, president of the state Congress Committee, in Papum Pare district.

Additionally, we came across footage of the yatra within the state, accessible on Gandhi’s official YouTube channel.

Hence, it’s confirmed that the Congress party has, indeed, nominated candidates for the upcoming elections in Arunachal Pradesh. So, the viral post claiming Congress has not fielded any candidate for the general elections from Arunachal Pradesh is false.
