Fact Checked: Don’t believe this picture of Kapil Sibal; it’s photoshopped

Date:

A post is being shared on social media showing Congress leader Kapil Sibal and his wife in a slaughterhouse.

“कांग्रेसी कपिल सिब्बल और उनकी बीबी प्रमिला का गाये, बैल काटने वाले एशिया के सबसे बड़े कसाईखाना का फोटो, अब ये न कहना ये भी फ़र्ज़ी है।” the caption read.

The above post has more than 7,000 Facebook shares.

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, we found that the picture is morphed.

On cropping and putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we found a picture on Yandex.

We found the original picture on a branto.ru website.

When we reverse searched the original image, we found an article by Washington Post dated June 6, 2007, where this image was used.

The woman in the picture is Stephanie Gerbier, one of the first two women to win France’s annual competition for best apprentice butcher. The caption of the picture read, ” Two years ago, Stephanie Gerbier enrolled in butcher school against her parents’ wishes. This year, she won a national competition. (By Molly Moore — The Washington Post). “

This proves that the viral picture is photoshopped.
