Advani told to fight Gandhinagar Modi opts for Vadodara

Date:

New Delhi: BJP is in a damage control mode after the rift in the top brass is out in the open. The Modi-Advani rivalry reached a high pitch when the party selection committee – which Advani boycotted – allotted him the Gandhinagar seat instead of Bhopal, the seat he asked for. It is now clear who calls the shot in BJP, and soon after the decision was taken, a team of senior leaders called on the patriarch who was once the face of the party. The team included Sushma Swaraj and Nitin Gadkari. Rajnath Singh and Modi himself is trying to persuade the miffed leader to accept the party decision.

Narendra Modi will now fight from a second seat, Vadodara, the party announced on Wednesday. The decision was taken after a long meeting of Bharatiya Janata Party’s central election committee, which was not attended by Advani.

Olympian Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore was given a ticket from Jaipur Rural while Bollywood actress Hema Malini will contest from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. Dushyant Singh, son of Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje, will fight from Jhalawar in the state.

New entrant Jagdambika Pal, will contest from Domariaganj in Uttar Pradesh.
In Bihar, party leader Ashwini Kumar Choubey will fight from Buxar.

This was the fifth list announced by the BJP in which 67 candidates, including 10 women, were named.
