New Delhi: The Election Commission of India released a report stating the donation made to several recognized parties in the year 2020-21 with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) way ahead of other parties financially.

The political parties are obligated to declare the details of funding and donations that they receive where the amount is or above ₹20,000. The BJP collected over ₹477 crores in terms of donations in a year.

The amount, however, has gone down from their collection made in 2019-2020 which was a whopping ₹785 crores. The Indian National Congress party gathered ₹74 crores this year. They are the closest to BJP in terms of donations, still, BJP is way ahead of them.

According to the data reported by ECI, BJP received donations from 2,206 donors while Congress received donations from 1,059 donors. Trinamool Congress received ₹42.51 crores from 26 donors this year. CPIM received ₹12.85 crores from 226 donors this year.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) failed to report any donors above the ₹20,000 bracket for two financial years in a row. The news comes in after suffering their biggest defeat in the state Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.

According to reports, the total number of donations received by all the political parties this year was more than ₹633 crores.
