New Delhi:Â Three people were detained after CBI on Thursday conducted a nationwide raid at various government and corporate offices in New Delhi and Mumbai.
Raids were being conducted at six different places in Delhi and two places in Mumbai including several ministries and private firms.
The three people who have been detained have been identified as Mumbai-based Chartered Accountant Khem Chand Gandhi, Section Officer in the Department of Economic Affairs Lala Ram and Under-Secretary in the Department of Disinvestment and Grievances Ashok Kumar.
CBI spokesperson confirming the raids report informed that the investigating agency had recovered the documents related to the foreign investments from the Ministry of Finance and Commerce.
According to senior agency officials, residence and office of a Mumbai based chartered accountant Khemchand Gandhi was raided. The agency sleuths recovered Rs 60 lakh and few documents from Gandhi’s residence.
CBI sleuths further revealed that the documents were allegedly sold for consideration by the certain government officials to a Mumbai based Chartered Accountant who in turn passed documents to various corporate houses. The investigating agency has arrested three persons including Gandhi.
CBI had information about the leakage of classified documents from several ministries. CBI has also recovered Rs 60 lakhs so far apart from several documents.
Earlier, Delhi Police’s crime branch had arrested senior executives of India’s top private energy companies – Reliance Industries, Essar, Cairns India, ADAG Reliance and Jubilant Energy.
