The Congress and other Opposition parties have been opposing the Land Acquisition Bill terming it as anti-farmer and pro-corporate.

Addressing media outside Rashtrapati Bhawan, Congress President Sonia Gandhi said, “All progressive, secular, democratic forces are determined to defeat the Modi government design to promote divisions and social disharmony.”

“We have asked the President to intervene and ask the Modi govt not to go ahead with land acquisition bill in Rajya Sabha,” Sonia added further.

JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav said, “Country farmers have made us independent, we cannot snatch their right.”

“This is going to be ‘aar-paar’ (do or die) battle. We have sounded the bugle for the war,” Yadav said.
