BJP dumps Ali under RSS pressure

Date:

New Delhi: Amid intense pressure from RSS and senior leaders within the party, BJP has cancelled the membership of Sabir Ali just hours after the induction. Welcomed on Friday, the controversial Ali was dropped on Saturday.

On last Sunday, the party rescinded the membership of Sri Ram Sene leader Pramod Muthalik, who was among the attackers of a group of young women in a Mangalore pub in 2009. Ali’s arrival was derided by BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi who said the Bihar politician has links to Yasin Bhatkal, the alleged founder of terror group Indian Mujahideen. On Twitter, Naqvi asked if his party would next induct underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim. “Terrorist Bhatkal friend join BJP…soon accepting dawood,” he had posted.

BJP made its stand clear today on that publicly expressed feedback. “Rajnath Singh (party president) has suggested that BJP members must raise internal issues only in party forums,” Ravi Shankar Prasad said while announcing the decision to cancel  Ali’s membership.

Ali now has the dubious distinction of having expelled from two parties in the same month. He joined BJP after being sacked from  Janata Dal (United) in Bihar after he publicly praised  BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi – payback for not being re-nominated by the JD(U) to the Rajya Sabha.
