Meghalaya appoints new AG

Date:

Meghalaya government appointed Additional Advocate General BP Todi as the new Advocate General (AG) of the state, a week after the former AG resigned.

“We have decided to appoint Addl AG Dr BP Todi as the new Advocate General,” Chief Minister Mukul Sangma told reporters on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting held here today.

He said the notification in this regard will be issued later in the evening.

Todi’s name was cleared unanimously while the state government had sent the former AG’s resignation letter to the Governor V Shanmuganathan.

Kynjing stepped down in the wake of criticism of his failure to serve as the AG in important matters in the High Court.

Chief Justice Uma Nath Singh had openly criticized Kynjing for his alleged “lack of knowledge in law” and “habit of seeking repeated adjournments in important cases of public interests.
