Ahmedabad: When the country is witnessing a rise in crimes rates against women, a third-year computer engineering student from Gujrat has been working on innovations that are not just technologically smart but also socially relevant.
Inspired by Steve Jobs, Nadiad-based Nandan Shah, who is in his 20s, with his friend Sanjay Bathavar invented a wristband that can prevent rapes. The wristband contains a pulse-measuring device, sponge, anesthetic liquid, small control unit, orientation sensor and a mini robotic device, TOI reported.
When a woman, wearing the band feels danger around her, her pulse increase will message the control unit, which will transfer the message to mini robotics and will release an anesthetic liquid to the sponge on the upper part of the wristband that will, in turn, irritate the person causing the danger.
The woman has to take the band to the face of the attacker, which will leave them unconscious for 5-10 minutes. If the attacker tries to twist towards the face of the woman, sensor fitted in a nose ring will send a single to the wrist band, and it will lock itself.
Apart from the wristband, Shah and two of his friends have also invented three more devices – a folding keyboard, smart locking device and mass-storage device. Shah has applied for four patents in just a year and these are being processed by the patent office of the Government of India.
According to the rules, once a person applies for patent and the patent is being processed, no one else can make the device even with minor variations.
