Farah set to win fitness race ahead of Commonwealth Games

Date:

Olympic champion Mo Farah is on course to win his race to be fit for this month’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

British star Farah, who won gold in the 5,000m and 10,000m events at the London 2012 Olympics, was ruled out of last weekend’s Glasgow Grand Prix in the Scottish city with an abdominal complaint.

But the Somalia-born 31-year-old looks set to return to the track in the Scottish city when the Games get underway next week.

Both Team England and Farah’s management team have confirmed there is no change to his plans to compete in both the 5000m and 10000m events.

On Tuesday, UK Athletics performance director Neil Black eased fears over Farah’s medical issues, insisting: “Mo has had some challenges with his health which have all been dealt with and he is now phasing back into full training.

“He is really positive about things and he is thinking optimistically about the summer.”

Farah, who won gold in the 5000m and 10,000m at the 2013 World Championships, has also been named in the 75-strong Great Britain squad for the European Championships in Zurich next month.
