Hubballi: As the preparations for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections are in the full swing, Congress leader Jagadish Shettar filed his nomination from the Hubli-Dharwad-Central Assembly constituency on Wednesday.
The shift of Jagadish Shettar to Congress came as a huge blow to BJP as he became the second senior most leader from the Lingayat community to leave the party.
Shettar is set to face BJP’s candidate Mahesh Tenginkai in the election. Earlier on Monday,Shettar joined the Congress party in presence of Mallikarjun Kharge and state Congress President DK Shivkumar.
Meanwhile, former chief minister of Karnataka and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah while filing his nomination from the Varuna constituency announced that this will be his last assembly election as a candidate.
Addressing the rally, Siddaramaiah said, “After this assembly elections, I will quit electoral politics.”
On the other hand, BJP held a high-level meeting with President JP Nadda and leaders of the party at MLA Aravind Bellad’s house in Karnataka’s Hubballi ahead of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s filing of nomination.
