CWG 2022: Indian Judo Stars Shine As Shushila Bags Silver And Vijay Kumar Settles For Bronze

Birmingham: Indian Women’s Judo player Shushila Devi Likmabam shines in the 48kg category at the Commonwealth Games by bagging a silver medal while Vijay Kumar Yadav clinches bronze in the Men’s 60kg Judo event on Monday.

Devi had to settle for the silver medal after losing in the finals against Michaela Whitebooi of South Africa who went on to bag the gold medal. In the match, both players received a second Shido apiece. Both judokas were on two penalties each. Michaela Whitebooi won the gold with a leg sweep.

Meanwhile, Vijay Kumar Yadav in a crucial game clinched a bronze medal for the country in Men’s 60kg category. Vijay registered a swift 10-0 win over Cyprus’ Petros C in the game.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and congratulated Shushila Devi for her glorious performance and added that he is “Elated by the exceptional performance by Shushila Devi Likmabam. Congratulations to her on winning the Silver medal. She has demonstrated remarkable skill and resilience.”

PM Modi further lauded the effort of Vijay Kumar Yadav and added that “His success augurs well for the future of sports in India. May he continue to scale new heights of success in the times to come.”
