Indonesian teenager survives 49 days in fishing hut

In nothing less than a miracle, a 19-year old Indonesian who looked after a fishing hut survived for 49 days at sea by cooking fish over wood taken from his vessel, it has emerged.

Aldi Novel Adilang from Sulawesi who worked as a lamp keeper on a floating fish trap was rescued by a Panama-flagged vessel and returned home.

Since the teenager had very little supplies, he survived by catching fish and burning wood from his fishing hut to cook them.

To ensure that he was hydrated, the 19-year-old drank seawater through his clothes to minimise salt intake.

The teenager was employed to light the rompong’s lamps, designed to attract the fish, and according to his father had done the job since he was sixteen.
