Klavan’s first PL goal for side steals late victory for Salah-less Liverpool

Date:

Ragnar Klavan scored in the last minute of injury time after Johann Berg Gudmundsson had cancelled out Sadio Manes’s goal in the 87th minute as Liverpool edged Burnley 2-1.

Liverpool took to Turf Moor with a hope of sealing all three points against a side which were 7th in the table but were without a win in their last 4 games.

Missing their top scorers Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho and with Roberto Firmino on the bench, it was never going to be an easy task, and that’s what proved to be true.

Adam Lallana threatened and so did Sadio Mane occasionally but they lacked the teeth that trio of Coutinho, Salah and Firmino provide. After a goal-less first half which saw Liverpool build some pressure on the Clarets.

After a goal-less first half, Sadio Mane finally scored his 5th Premier League goal to give the Reds lead in the 61st minute. Attacks after attacks followed as Liverpool seeked to seal game while Burnley pushed for equaliser. It finally paid off for the hosts as Gudmundsson equalised with three minutes of regular time left.

It seemed like Liverpool would have to settle for a point as the game moved into the injury time. But Klavan headed Dejan Lovren’s headed effort from very close in the 4th minute of injury time. His first goal for Liverpool in Premier League meant that Liverpool earned vital three points which put them just a point behind second placed Chelsea and on level with Manchester United, which face Everton, on third.
