Lok Sabha Polls 2024: 1.8 Crore First-Time Voters To Enter Electoral Fray


The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday announced the schedule for the upcoming General Elections 2024. CEC Rajiv Kumar in his address revealed staggering figures for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, which included, the number of voters, first-time voters, women voters etc for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. In a much-anticipated announcement on Saturday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) declared the kick-off on April 19, 2024, in 7 phases and results on June 04, 2024.

  • Total Registered Voters: 96.8 crore which highlights the enthusiasm and engagement of citizens across the country.
  • Women Voters: 47.1 crore.  In 12 states, the number of women voters has surpassed that of men showing a clear sign of the growing participation and empowerment of women in the democratic process. 
  • The elections will witness a substantial number of first-time voters, with 1.8 crore individuals entering the electoral fray.
  • Young voters: 19.47 crore voters aged between 20-29 years.
  • Voters over the age of 85 will have the option to vote from home.
  • High focus on infrastructure via massive Polling Stations: A mind-boggling 10.5 lakh polling stations to be set up nationwide for accessibility and convenience. 
  • A large ECI Workforce to support the election process including 1.5 crore polling officials and security staff to ensure smooth sailing on election day. 
  • High-Tech Voting: With 55 lakh Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) being deployed, the process is set to be faster, more efficient, and more secure than ever before. 
  • In 2019 polls, the BJP-led National Democratic (NDA) won a total of 303 seats, leaving the grand-old party behind at 52 seats.
