Lok Sabha Polls: Police On High Alert Ahead Of Polling In Jammu; Drones, Sniffer Dogs Being Used

Jammu: As the second phase of Lok Sabha elections approaches in Jammu, security personnel have been placed on high alert and are actively conducting patrols in vulnerable areas. The Special Operations Group of the Jammu and Kashmir Police has been deployed to patrol these sensitive locations, aiming to thwart any potential threats or nefarious activities by adversaries.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have deployed drones for aerial surveillance to monitor the area and ensure enhanced security measures. Additionally, special dogs trained in detecting explosives are being utilized to clear any potential threats of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in the vicinity.

Jammu will go to polls during the second phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 26. Polling in Udhampur was held on April 19 (Phase 1), while Anantnag-Rajouri, Srinagar, and Baramulla will poll on May 7, May 13, and May 20 respectively.

The counting of votes will be held on June 4.In 2019, polling for the Lok Sabha was held for six seats in Jammu and Kashmir. BJP won three seats while the National Conference won the remaining three. This is the first general election in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.

Through the passage of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 in Parliament, Article 370, which gave special constitutional privileges to the erstwhile state, ceased to exist. The state of Jammu and Kashmir was split and reorganised into two UTs–Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh–in August 2019.
