New York Times Buys Wordle For Seven-Figure Sum

Date:

The popular word game Wordle has been purchased by The New York Times for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.

The game was created by software engineer Josh Wardle and challenges its players to find a five-letter word in six guesses per day.

The game was released in last October and had only 90 players till November, however, in January it reached millions of players. It was a free and simple game to play and people could easily boast the result without sharing spoilers on social media.

New York Times has said that the game would be free to use. The acquisition comes as the newspaper is diversifying its output by offering a special subscription to the crossword and other games.
