Revlon appoints Debra Perelman as the first woman CEO in the 86-year history

Debra Perelman has been appointed as the CEO of Revlon and you’ll be shocked to know that in the 86-year history of Revlon this is the first time a woman is being appointed as a CEO of Revlon.

“It’s a good time for the company to be led by a woman,” she said in a statement, according to the reports. “This is another first for the company and I’m honoured and humbled.”

Perelman, 44, takes as the CEO and President after she was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer in January. She has been working at Revlon for 20 years.

“She’s qualified,” said the spokesperson. “I also think she got that benefit, that she did learn from [her father]. He’s been a mentor to her and he respects her.” Revlon has been struggling financially. The company reported a loss in its most recent quarter, and sales were down compared to a year earlier.

Woman are underrepresented in the top management as there are only 24 women CEO’s in the Fortune 500- like Mary Barra of General Motors (GM) and Indri Nooyi of PepsiCo (PEP), Revlon is not in the Fortune 500.
