Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong To Step Down On May 15, Lawrence Wong To Be The New PM

Singapore: Singapore’s Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, announced on Monday that he plans to step down from his position on May 15. He revealed that Lawrence Wong, his deputy, will take over as the new Prime Minister on the same day. The Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement confirming the transition date.

Taking to X (Formerly Twitter), Lee, who is 72 years old wrote, “I will relinquish my role as PM on 15 May 2024 &@LawrenceWongSTwill be sworn in as the next PM on the same day.”

“I ask all Singaporeans to give Lawrence & his team your full support, & work with them to create a brighter future for Singapore,” he added.

Since 2004, Lee has held the position of Singapore’s 3rd Prime Minister and has also served as the Secretary-General of the People’s Action Party, the ruling party in Singapore.
