Tennessee: 2 Killed, 8 Injured In Memphis Park Mass Shooting

Date:

Memphis: Eight people including two men were shot at an unsanctioned public party in a Memphis city park Saturday night as per the police. Officers responded at 7:19 PM to a reported shooting as Memphis Police Department Chief Cerelyn Davis said during a news conference at the scene.

According to Davis in a conversation with AP, two guys were declared dead at the site. The six people who survived were sent to nearby hospitals; according to the police, one of them was very ill at Regional One Health in Memphis. According to Davis, there were between 200 and 300 people at the Orange Mound Park block party when the shooting happened, but it didn’t seem like a city permit had been obtained.

According to Davis, at least two persons are thought to have fired firearms during the shooting, and as part of their continuing investigation, police were watching camera evidence. Not one arrest was made right away. Davis declared, “We stand together to denounce these senseless acts of violence in light of recent events.”

In a social media post, the Memphis police updated their initial report of 16 shots, stating that the error looked to have resulted from “several victims being reported multiple times.” Numerous gunshots were heard from the Orange Mount Community Center crowd, as seen in videos posted on social media, forcing partygoers to flee for their lives. Numerous ambulances were dispatched by the fire department to the location.

Five victims with gunshot wounds were discovered at the location, the top police official informed media agencies. He claimed that three people were taken to the hospital in critical condition and that two people were declared deceased on the spot. At least two gunshots were reported, and the police are still conducting their investigation and seeking suspects. He continued, saying that a total of 16 people had been shot; 11 more had been evacuated in private vehicles to adjacent hospitals. Local news sources in Memphis reported that it was one of the biggest mass shootings in Memphis’ history.

The police went on to say that Orange Mound Park was hosting the block party without a permit. There were up to 300 persons present.
