Three gold crowns, weighing a total of 1.3 kg, stolen from Tirupati Temple

Three diamond-studded golden crowns were stolen on Saturday from Sri Govindarajaswami Temple, in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati.

Weighing a total of 1.3 kg, the crowns presided the sub-temple gods – Malayappa, Sridevi and Bhoodevi. Malayappa crown weighs 528 gram, Sridevi crown weighs 408 gram and Bhoodevi crown weighs 415 gram.

According to the police, the theft is suspected to have taken place at the time of evening prasad offerings.

A complaint has been filed by the temple superintendent Sri Gyana Prakash. Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanams (TTD) Assistant Executive Officer Kola Bhaskar said the theft was noticed around 10.30 PM on Saturday and the TTD’s vigilance wing immediately informed the police.

An investigating officer told NDTV that the CCTV footages are being scanned and the investigation is underway.

Sri Govindarajaswami Temple is one of the most ancient was built in 12th century by saint Sri Ramanujacharya.
