A family of 4, traveling from Mumbai to Kannauj had a lucky escape when their SUV fell into a 50 foot ditch after a section of the Agra Expressway collapsed. They have been identified as Mohammed Naushad, Rachit Kumar, Abdul Ussin and Mohammad Shaunu. They were rescued by locals and police in the nick of time, and were fortunate to escape with minor injuries.
The incident occurred at about 05:30 AM, near Dauki Police Station. Officials believe the cause of the collapse to be heavy rainfall, which caused soil erosion.
The matter has been referred to higher authorities, and Awanish Kumar Awasthi, the CEO of the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority, has ordered a probe into the matter.
