New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday announced the first list of candidates for the upcoming Mizoram assembly elections. AAP state president, Andrew Lalremkima is set to compete in Aizawl North III, and candidates Vanlalmawia Vanchhawwng, Biakthianghlima, and Lalngaihawma Pachau are set to compete for seats in Aizawl West I, Aizawl West III, and Aizawl South I, respectively.
Following the BJP’s announcement of 23 candidates for the upcoming Mizoram assembly elections on November 7, the list includes the Speaker of the outgoing House and several others who recently switched allegiance from the ruling MNF to join the BJP.
The majority of the candidates are new faces, with four of them being women. The deadline for submitting nominations is October 20. Johny Lalthanpuia, the State BJP media convener, mentioned that it remains uncertain whether the party will participate in all 40 assembly seats in the northeastern state.
Elections are scheduled for Mizoram on November 7, Chhattisgarh on November 7 and November 17, Madhya Pradesh on November 17, Rajasthan on November 25, and Telangana on November 30. The vote-counting process will take place on December 3 across all these states. Chhattisgarh will witness polling conducted in two phases among the five states.
With the declaration of election dates, the Model Code of Conduct is now in effect. These elections in five states are crucial as they are being held several months ahead of the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April-May next year.
