Barbie introduces 17 inspiring dolls in honor of International Women’s Day

Date:

This International Women’s Day, Barbie is honoring accomplished role models with their very own dolls.

From aviator Amelia Earhart to USA Olympic snowboarder Chloe Kim, Barbie created 17 realistic-looking dolls inspired by impactful women from all different backgrounds and occupational fields.

The brand’s new “Inspiring Women” series is honoring pioneering aviator Amelia Earhart; celebrated artist Frida Kahlo; and Katherine Johnson, the NASA mathematician who broke race and gender barriers. Johnson, who is now 99, was featured in the recent movie “Hidden Figures.” These dolls come with educational information about the contributions each has made to society.

A spokeswoman said the Adams doll had been designed in close collaboration with the boxer’s team. Mattel also announced on March 6 the launch of a series of historical dolls that come with educational information.

The first three “Inspiring Women” are Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, U.S. aviator Amelia Earhart, and mathematician Katherine Johnson, who worked on the U.S. space programme.

Though the 14 modern-day role model dolls are one-of-a-kind and not currently available for sale, the three dolls in the historical Inspiring Women line are currently available for pre-order, and will be available for purchase in the coming months.
